But finally Rohit performed well, scoring 50 runs in 40 balls against South Africa in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 on 20 September 2007. And there was victory in that match too. Along with this, Rohit was also chosen as the man of the match of that match. Later in the final match of the same World Twenty20, he scored 30 runs in just 16 balls against the Pakistan team.

On 18 November 2007, Rohit Sharma scored his first ODI fifty against Pakistan at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He was later selected in the 16 member squad for the 2007–08 Commonwealth Games series, in that series. He scored 235 runs at an average of 33.57 with the help of 2 fifties, this Commonwealth series was very good for Rohit.

In February 2010, Rohit Sharma was called up for the Indian Test team because VVS Laxman was suffering from an injury during that time, due to which Sharma was given an opportunity to play his first Test match. But the latter added Wriddhiman Saha for both batsman and wicketkeeper instead of batsman.

Rohit made his first ODI century on 28 May 2010 against Zimbabwe cricket team, in that match he scored 114 runs. And later in the next match, on 30 May 2010, Rohit scored another century against Sri Lanka in the tri-series, in that match Rohit scored an unbeaten 110. Rohit Sharma was not included in the Indian team in the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Then later in the ODI series, Rohit started well and batted well in the very first match, scoring an unbeaten 68 off 75 balls, hitting 4 fours and a six and was also adjudged the highest player of the match. Rohit Sharma scored 91 runs in 91 balls in the third ODI match which was played at Sir Vivian Richards ground. And became the winner of Man of the Series for the first time in ODIs. His good form continued and once again he became the man of the series but this time on the Indian soil and that too against the Windies.

In November 2013, he played his first match against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens ground in Kolkata and scored 177 runs in that match to become the second most successful player to score a century in the first Test. 

In 2010, Rohit Sharma became the first batsman in the world to score more than 250 runs in One Day Internationals and also hit double centuries twice. He once again achieved the feat at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and played an innings of 264 runs against the Sri Lankan team and stunned the entire cricket world.
